Fitness Center

Arts & Crafts Festival

 

From time to time the YWCA offers classes on a request basis - babysitting class, retirement planning, safe driving and Make and Take Crafts as just some examples.  Call the Y at 326.2011 for more details.

Ongoing classes include:

Karate

Help improve coordination, self-esteem, self-control, and concentration through the study and practice of Karate. Co-ed beginning and advanced instruction is provided for student’s seven years old through adult. The class is taught by Carl Swan, a certified Third degree Black Belt. Classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The cost is $36.00 per month plus a YWCA membership.

Tumbling

These classses are designed to teach youngsters 3 - 8 the basics of tumbling.  The instructors will focus on balance, coordination and body awareness.  Classes are held each Wednesday; divided by age groups.  The cost is $27 per month, plus a youth membership.

Aerobics

Each week the Y offers an aerobic class - fast paced exercises set to popular music - led by an experienced teacher.  Currently the class is offered on Saturday mornings at 10 AM. Walkins are welcome, there is a per class fee of $6 with monthly payments available.  Visit the Y, stop in for class on Sat. morning or call 326.2011 for more details.

 


 

Youth Drop In Privileges at the YW Gym

Youth in grades 5-12 are invited to drop in at the YW to use the gym facilities when there is no scheduled programming. You are required to check at the reception desk or front offices upon your arrival. The Y allows up to 6 students at a time in the gym. You must be a YW member to take advantage of this privilege.

Adult Gym Use

Adult Members are also afforded gym privileges, please call the YWCA for details and to make specific arrangements.

 


 

Youth Center

Our Youth Center is open on Thursday evenings from 7PM – 9PM, during the school year.  Held at the YWCA, students in grades 6 – 12 from Westfield and surrounding communities are welcome to come play in the gym, play games, watch TV or movies or just hang out with friends. Snacks are provided.

The YWCA offers youth a safe, alcohol and drug free meeting place. Please call 326-2011 for additional information.

 


 

Senior Stretching Program

Classes are held at the YW on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday of each week from 10:45 am – 11:45 am. Classes are led by a volunteer and each participant works at their own pace.  Come join us in a fun hour of exercise and stretching.

 


 

Senior Citizens

The Westfield Seniors meet at the YWCA on the second Thursday of each month.

 


 

YWCA Pre-School and Day Care Center

The YWCA Pre-School starts a new semester of the Pre-School Classes in September, but open enrollment is often available based on class size.  Classes are held as follows: Three and Four year olds meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. -11:30 p.m. Two year olds meet Monday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. The Pre-School Day Care Center is also available full days for students needing wrap around care. The YWCA pre schools promote socialization and personal growth with a developmentally progressive approach. Please contact Brenda Backus at 326-4012 to register. The program participates with scholarships and Chautauqua County Dept. of Social Services.

 


 

Universal Pre-Kindergarten

The YWCA offers UPK at the Westfield School, following the Westfield Academy and Central School Calendar. This program is funded by the Westfield School and is free to Westfield School District Residents whose students turn 4 early in December. This program follows a New York State Pre-Kindergarten Curriculum.  The class is filled through a lottery system, contact the YWCA for details on lottery dates and procedures.

 


 

Advantage After School Program

The YWCA Westfield operates the Advantage After School Program held at Westfield Central School.  The program is available school days from 2:30 - 5:30.  All Middle and High School Students are eligible to attend.  Interested students and parents can get more information or get signed up by calling 326-4012 and asking for Michele Meleen. This program includes a healthy snack, homework help, Karate, Patterson Library Activities, Gym Time, Technology Activities, Awareness Theater, Math Club, Prevention Education, fun and games!

 


 

Before School Care

The YWCA Westfield offers Before School Care for Elementary Students in the Westfield School Cafeteria. This program opens at 7 a.m. and includes recreation and a school breakfast. Parents can bring their children and we will be sure they get to class. Fees are based on a scholarship scale and the program participates with scholarships and Chautauqua County Dept. of Social Services. Signs ups are now being accepted. Summer Day Camp/Licensed Child Care

The YWCA offers full day childcare for children Kindergarten to age 12 at the YWCA Site on Portage Street. Full Day childcare is available from 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Each summer has a specific theme and activities are structured around that.  This program includes full participating in the Westfield Recreation Swim and Field Program as well as the Patterson Library Summer Reading program. This service is provided based on a scholarship scale and participation with child care assistance through the Department of Social Services. There are limited openings each summer. Parents are encouraged to contact the YWCA Child Services Office at 326.4012 for details.
