The YWCA Girls' Program is dedicated to fostering self-esteem and developing leadership capabilities of girls from diverse backgrounds. Our program promotes habits, attitude and skills that encourage and inspire girls to reach their full potential. This fun enriching experience is for girls ages 8-13 years old.
Starting in January, the Girls' Program will meet every Thursday from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm at Westfield Academy and Central Schools. We will also operate for 3 weeks during the summer, Monday and Thursday from 9:00 am. to 3:00 pm.
Examples of programming include a Lego League with the Girl Scouts which will hopefully be going to competition in the spring. We have also partnered with Girl Scouts, CASAC, Absolut Care of Westfield, The Thrifty Kitty, and the Westfield Community Kitchen for community service opportunities. We were able to offer home alone and first aid classes, and toured local businesses operated by women such as Westfield Optical, Westfield Community Pharmacy, and Cakes by Brandy. Other highlights include a field trip to the Westfield Water Department and to Starflight, Inc. to tour the helicopter hanger and speak with a pilot and a sheriff.
